The Azbil Telstar subsidiary in Dhaka, Bangladesh, was formally inaugurated on 2 April. The opening of Telstar’s new center, which is specifically focused on reinforcing a professional and specialized service in Asia’s pharmaceutical market, is in response to a requirement to promote growth in a region where the company has been active over the past ten years.
At the same time, Azbil Telstar is reinforcing its global activities in engineering, construction and manufacturing processes for development of turnkey plants and installations for local and multinational pharmaceutical companies with high growth potential.
Azbil Telstar is focused on providing global high-tech solutions in design, engineering, construction and manufacturing processes with automation technologies for the international life science markets, such as biopharmaceutical, life science research, personalized medicine, regenerative medicine and functional foods. Through the opening of the new centre, the Telstar brand is now represented in this region by three specialized production plants and engineering centres in China, Bangladesh and India.
The pharma industry, a flagship sector in Bangladesh
At the inauguration ceremony of the new centre in Bangladesh, which was attended by 120 people, Azbil Telstar received the explicit support of the political authorities, institutional representatives and business leaders.
Bangladesh Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim, acted as chief guest at the ceremony and extended congratulations for the interest and trust of Azbil Telstar in the Bangladeshi pharmaceutical industry, the flagship sector in Bangladesh, and for devising their own technological innovations to further develop the industry, with the help of a local team, and for the decision of the company to invest in services that will support advanced areas such as life science research and regenerative medicine.
In addition, the Bangladesh Association of Pharmaceutical Industries’ (BAPI) President, Salman F Rahman, emphasized the relevant role of the pharmaceutical sector in the successful accomplishment of the millennium development Goals in the health sector of Bangladesh and highlighted that Azbil Telstar is a such dynamic company that is involved in R&D and innovating newer technologies with the need of a constantly evolving pharmaceutical industry worldwide and we hope the company will further furnish to a great extent our beloved sector.
Finally, Azbil Telstar’s chairman Ton Capella, who expressed the commitment of the company to contribute to the development of the Bangladeshi society, said that we are convinced that the ability and know-how of our company will provide high added-value to Bangladesh, one of the fastest growing regions in the world. Ton Capella also mentioned Square Pharmaceuticals and in particular its founder Samson H Chowdhury and expressed gratitude for the support received during the past 12 years.
Square MD Tapan Chowdhury had words of praise for the existing good relationship between the two companies indicating that four production units have been successfully constructed for Square by Telstar: the Cephalosporin, Oral Solids Dose, Insulin and Large Volume Parenteral facilities.

The ceremony also benefitted from the presence of other dignitaries, including the ambassadors of Japan and Spain in Bangladesh, Shiro Sadoshima and Luis Tejada, respectively, the secretary general of BAPI, Abdul Muktadir, and the director general of drug administration, Mohammed Jahangir Hossain Mollik, all were received by Azbil Telstar’s Chairman, Ton Capella; Saka managing director, SA Khan; general manager of the life science engineering department at Azbil Corporation, Hideya Saito, and; Azbil Telstar Bangladesh managing director, Rafael Beaus.
